Levofloxacin, a third-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic, exhibits potent bactericidal activity against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative ocular pathogens. It acts by inhibiting bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase, enzymes essential for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination — thereby halting bacterial growth and leading to cell death.

Although these effects are unlikely with topical ophthalmic use, caution is advised in patients receiving these medications systemically.
Contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to Levofloxacin, other quinolones, or any component of the formulation.
